Wayne Furbert

Wayne Furbert was first elected to the House of Assembly in 1993 to the old constituency of Hamilton West and served in several Cabinet positions including Minister of Culture, Minister of Transport and Minister of Housing, Health and Social Services. He was also party leader before being replaced by Michael Dunkley in March 2007.

In 2001, Mr Furbert was elected as the 18th chairman of the United Bermuda Party and in 2003 was returned to the House of Assembly as MP for Hamilton West. He was elected Leader of the UBP in January 2006.Mr Furbert grew up with politics. His great-great-uncle, Ernest Furbert, was the first black Member of Parliament in Bermuda, elected in Hamilton Parish in 1933. When Ernest died his Great Grand Father W.B. Furbert was elected to the same constituency. Mr Furbert is currently an accountant and an entrepreneur.
