Neletha Butterfield represented the PLP in the Pembroke West Central constituency in the 1993 general election. She was appointed to the Senate that year where she was spokesperson for Education, Community & Cultural Affairs, Youth Development, Sports, Parks & Recreation and Women’s Issues.

At the general election in 1998 she successfully won the Pembroke West Central seat and in October 2002 was appointed Minister without Portfolio, spokesperson in the House of Assembly for the Ministry of Housing and a Justice of the Peace. She then served as Minister of the Environment, Telecommunications and E-Commerce.

Ms Butterfield worked as a lecturer at Bermuda College in computers, English and mathematics. She is the owner and director of a computer school and an alternative learning center called CARE (Children and Adults Reaching for Education).She has also used her skills to help inmates develop basic education and computer skills at Prison Farm, Casemates Prison, Coed Correctional Facility and Westgate Correctional Facility.She is President of Bermuda Business and Professional Women’s Club and the co-founder of Prison Fellowship Bermuda.
