Michael Henry Dunkley

Michael Dunkley was elected to Parliament in a Devonshire South by-election on May 6, 1997. He was elected UBP leader in March 2007 but gave up his safe seat in the general election to stand against Patrice Minors in Smiths North. He failed to take the seat.

He served as Shadow Minister of Labour, Home Affairs and Public Safety and Shadow Minister of Health and Family Services before taking on his the role of leader.

Mr Dunkley attended Saltus Grammar School, then Trinity College School in Canada. He also attended George Washington University and the University of Richmond in the United States, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Scholar Athlete Award in 1980.Mr Dunkley is vice president and chief executive officer of Dunkley’s Dairy and Island Properties Ltd. He began his career in the sales department of the Dairy in 1980, and was promoted sales manager in 1984.

He served on the Hospital Insurance Commission in 1992, and on the Board of Agriculture in 1992 and 1993. He served on the Immigration Board from 1992-93 and again in 1996 and 1998.
