From an early age he was involved in programs such as the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo Volunteer Program where he would work for several summers as well as their Junior Naturalist Program, Spicelands Riding program and volunteer work with local farmers and animal husbandpersons. David enrolled at Hampton University, Hampton, Virginia and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in the field of Marine and Environmental Science. He was given the opportunity to further develop his knowledge of local environmental issues through his acceptance as an intern for two summers at the Bermuda Biological Station for research in their Bermuda Program. Upon graduating from Hampton University, he received the W.H. Freeman Scholarship Award for outstanding students undertaking a post-graduate degree and the National Collegiate Natural Sciences Award for outstanding science students as well as the Hampton University Diver of the Year award.He then enrolled at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica, where he completed two years of field research in Marine Ecology towards a Masters of Philosophy degree. On his return to Bermuda, he enjoyed employment at various institutions such as the Bermuda College where he lectured in Geography, the Bermuda Biological Station for Research as an Air Quality Technician, the Bermuda Electric Light Company as an Environmental Technician and again at the Bermuda College as a Lab Technician.  He is currently an environmental science teacher and Year Head at the Berkeley institute and has also completed a one year teacher certification course. He has contributed as an author in the local news media as well as local books, appeared on several television programs, participated as a presenter in the Eden Project on the subject of Composting, participated as a presenter in the Bermuda Youth Environmental Summit, received environmental grant awards with which he initiated a community garden and equipment loan scheme, received two National Trust environment awards.

David currently serves on the Parks Commission, the Board of Agricultural and the Sustainable Development Round Table. His latest project is the production of a children’s book series in conjunction with the Ministry of the Environment and the Department of Education entitled “Daddy and I Explore…” which seeks to promote local environmental appreciation as well as highlight the special relationship between a father and child.
