Hamilton, Bermuda: Tuesday, April 03, 2007 -
(Hamilton, Bermuda, April 3rd, 2007) – The 1st St. Patrick’s Guide Company today announce that they raised $800 at a bake sale on March 3rd. The money is being donated to the Bermuda registered charity ‘Hope for the Orphans Foundation.’
The ‘Hope for the Orphans Foundation’ looks after orphaned boys and girls from infants to 16 year olds and is based in the Ukraine. The money will be used as follows: $200 for clothing needs; $200 for medical needs; and $400 for educational needs.
Maria Higgins, one of the 1st St. Patrick’s Guide Company Leaders, says: “The guides heard of the plight of the orphans through a presentation made to them by the ‘Hope for the Orphans Foundation’ leaders. The guides were shown videos, told stories about the orphanage and shown where the Ukraine is on a map. The guides immediately wanted to do something for the orphans. The bake sale was the guides’ idea and they took initiative to organise it.”
To date the Foundation has provided the orphanage with clothing for about 50 children and a few beds to meet their needs.
