Premier Dr Ewart Brown has sent messages of encouragement to Bermuda’s Under 19 and Women’s cricket teams, which have both suffered heavy defeats abroad.
The Under 19s lost their World Cup opener against Bangladesh in Malaysia by 178 runs. The final score was Bangladesh 260, Bermuda 82.
In South Africa, the women’s team suffered a 10-wicket defeat at the hands of the host side.
In a letter to the Under 19 side, Dr Brown said: “We want you to know that your countrymen are behind you as you enter the World Cup competition. We expect you to do your best and make your opponents earn every run.”
His message to the women’s team was: “As you climb the World Stage you have the support of your country under your feet. In exchange for our support, we expect an exemplary effort.”
The Premier went on to urge both teams to “work hard, be proud and stand tall”.
