A group of rowdy partygoers threw rocks and bottles at police officers who told them to turn down their music.
Police were called to a house in Mount Zion Lane in Southampton at around 3.40am on Saturday following a complaint about loud music.
Around 20 people were at the house for a birthday party and the officers asked for the music to be turned down.
The partygoers complied but a short time later police were called back to the house As they left the area for the second time, rocks and bottles were thrown at the police vehicle.
The officers called for assistance and additional police units arrived at the scene. As a result, several young men were arrested on suspicion of throwing missiles and for outstanding warrants.
No officers were injured and it does not appear that any police vehicles were damaged by the projectiles.
Inquiries into this incident are underway.
