Ten-year-old Nate Lang spelled his way to victory in the tense final of Bermuda SpellDown.
The Somersfield Acadmey pupil beat eight other finalists to win a family cruise to Disneyworld and a laptop computer.
The competition, which is now in its fourth year, is organised by the Bermuda College and is open to students at the island's public and private schools.
Participants had to memorise 350 words and were also tested on unfamiliar vocabulary.
Education Minister Randy Horton joined friends and family in the audience and handed out prizes.
