Former UBP Jamahl Simmons has been appointed to the Premier's staff in the new position of Executive Aide to the Premier.
The new post replaces the Chief of Staff position, which is currently held by Senator Wayne Caines.
Sen Caines is leaving the Premier's staff on February 29 to join the private sector.
Making the announcement, the Premier’s Press Secretary Glenn Jones said: “The appointment of Jamahl Simmons will prove that one-time political foes can become allies when they share an interest in what’s best for the country. For that reason, perhaps more than any other, I welcome Jamahl to our team where hard work and long days are the norm. I have no doubt he’s up to the challenge.”
Mr Simmons was elected to Parliament for the UBP in 2003 following stints with both the PLP and National Liberal Party.
He quit the UBP last year amid claims of racism within the party and re-joined the PLP.
