Inflation fell to 3.4 per cent in February from 3.9 per cent the previous month.
Between January and February 2008 the average cost of goods and services in the Consumer Price Index rose 0.2 per cent.
The all items index increased from 105.4 per cent to 105.6 per cent index points.
This means that the basket of goods and services that cost $100 in April 2006 now cost $105.60.
The Fuel and Power sector was the biggest contributor to the increase, with the annual rate of increase in this sector reaching 32.3 per cent.
The Rent and Food sectors also had a strong impact with increases of 2.0 and 3.4 per cent respectively.
