Date Posted: Saturday, April 28, 2007
Author: Bermuda Network News

Bermuda Heritage Month gets underway tomorrow with an opportunity to tour the Spirit of Bermuda.

The sail training vessel, which is based on the design of the historic Bermuda sloops, will be berthed at Albuoy’s Point from 3pm.

Heritage Month 2007 celebrates Bermuda’s maritime connections and includes a wide range of events that will take place at locations across the island. These include music, drama and dance performances, as well as a series of lectures and tours.

On May 4, historian John Cox will talk about Bermuda’s old merchant houses during a cruise along the island’s coastline, while on May 19 Ruth Thomas will lead a bus tour around the African Diaspora Heritage Trail.

Some of the island’s historic houses will be offering free admission throughout the month and there will be an open house at the Commissioner’s House at the Maritime Museum on May 20.

The highlight of the month will be Bermuda Day on May 24, which will begin with the traditional morning races. These will be followed by the Bermuda Day Parade at 1pm and an Entertainment Showcase from 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

Heritage Month is sponsored by the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs. For more information call 292 1681.
