CableVision honoured some of Bermuda's most dedicated community workers at a banquet on Saturday. The Salute to Service banquet recognised the individuals who have received the quarterly Community Service Award since it was established in 2004.

It was also an opportunity to present the latest recipients, the Bermuda Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and the Salvation Army, with their awards.

For the past 10 years, the Salvation Army has been operating a Feeding Programme, which includes either a mobile canteen meal or a sit down meal at the organisation’s North Street facility for those in need.

As a complement to this, four of the eleven congregations of the Bermuda Conference of Seventh-day Adventists have organised feeding programmes.

Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance Paula Cox said: “The Bermuda Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and the Salvation Army deserve our recognition and our praise.  Both organisations represent a legacy of leadership in the Bermuda community.  These churches and their respective congregations believe in community outreach and have forged a real connection with the local community and sought to ‘do good’.  We salute them as we celebrate their achievements and contributions to our community.  On behalf of the entire Government of Bermuda, I congratulate them tonight.”

Each organisation received a donation of £2,000 from Bermuda CableVision to support their work.

At the banquet, Harold Minors, 51, was also recognised with the first ever Rollin Nathan Community Award for his work with The Centre on Angle Street.

Mr Nathan, CableVision’s Sales Manager, was responsible for the development of the awards scheme.
