The Bermuda Archives is opening its doors to the public with an exhibition featuring sculptor Byllee Lang’s Original Drawings of the Reredos of the Anglican Cathedral.
This is the first time a selection of the original drawings have been made available for public viewing following their donation to the Bermuda Archives by Andrew Trimingham.
Archivist Karla Hayward said: “Ms. Lang’s studies and sketches on paper reveal the evolution of her design ideas for the figures of the reredos saints which are now an integral part of the fabric of Bermuda’s Anglican Cathedral. For more than 40 years, Bermudians have come to love and respect the strong stone figures that have looked down on the formal proceedings of church and state at the Cathedral.”
The drawings may be viewed in the public reading room of the Bermuda Archives from 9 a.m. to 5p.m. Mondays to Fridays.
The exhibition starts tomorrow, February 29 and runs until April 30.
It coincides with a major retrospective of Ms. Lang’s career at the Bermuda National Gallery which is on display until April 4, 2008.
