Have you ever had to send out an SOS for help regarding your teen? Have you ever felt as if you needed to get a message to your teen, but they were not about to receive the information from you? Have you ever desired that someone else would be able to talk to your preteen or teenager about the importance of taking personal responsibility for their own body, mind, soul or spirit?
Well, allow me to use this column today to share with Bermuda, a timely and wonderful opportunity to have your teens educated in a healthy and harmless atmosphere.
You may ask me why I have decided to write in this manner today. Well, having taught in our public school system for nineteen years, I cannot tell you the amount of teens who have been or are currently distracted and are thus not fulfilling their potential because they “lost focus” along the way.
Let’s admit it - it is very easy for teens to become unfocused. There are changes hormonally as their body tries to find its way towards an adult image. There are changes as teenagers transfer from Middle School and then into Secondary School. There are emotional changes as physical attraction to another teen occurs. The list goes on and on…
Isn’t it amazing that many of our children become sexually active prematurely, when their physical body has not yet finished changing, their educational pursuits are not finished and the challenges of life are certainly not over?
I am hoping and even praying that this column will reach the hearts of those who need it. For Bermuda is being eroded continuously and unnecessarily, while there are avenues of help made available. Do not miss this opportunity to invest the effort in ensuring that your teen hears this message of how to live life abundantly.

There is NO COST.
Speaking of cost, we can all agree that the more children we have, the more raising them will cost. However, the reality is that responsible parents would prefer to save money for college rather than for abortions, pregnancies or taking care of a grandchild. This is just not the best case scenario.
Of course, Bermuda parents will always be there in the case of unfortunate and unplanned pregnancies, but they would much rather spend their hard earned money on a College Degree.
Yet, since we live in such perilous times, it will take much wisdom and care to prevent our children from going astray. Peer pressure is real. What is also real is the imagination of a teenager who believes that the world does not understand him and that he is old enough to make major, life-changing decisions, without the input of his parents. This is dangerous - very dangerous.
Bermuda, I am asking that you take advantage of this moment. Do not let this pass you by. This is about refocusing our teens, and helping to make a better Bermuda tomorrow, by dealing with pertinent matters today. Contact us at: 504-9235.
