Like fashion, interior design follows seasonal trends but it’s a costly, not to mention time-consuming, business to completely overhaul your decor every few months. BNN looks at few simple ways to update your home and put a Bermuda spin on this season’s hot looks.
Brights
Bright colours are big news this spring and one of the easiest ways to update a neutral colourscheme. Be inspired by the Bermuda landscape - brightly-coloured houses, lush greenery, turquoise sea. Add a splash of turquoise or bright yellow with accessories such as vases, cushions and throws. If you’re feeling particularly bold why not create a feature wall by painting it pink?
Cool
As the temperature heats up outside, create a cool, calming interior with a pale, Nordic-inspired colourscheme. The palette is soft grey, blue and green, offset by blond or white wood furniture.
Force of nature
Bring a little bit of the outside into your home with floral patterns inspired by Bermuda’s beautiful gardens. Fresh or artificial flowers instantly bring colour to a room, while plants add greenery and help purify the atmosphere. Garden ornaments, such as terracotta pots and wood planters create an unusual focus. The palette is an earthy mix of greens and browns.
Global
Global influences are strong this season and range from bold, African prints to delicate Chinese bamboo furniture. Look for handcrafted items that will create a talking point and contrast them with typically Bermudian pieces made from cedar.
Cosy cottage
As life in the big cities becomes increasingly frenetic, designers are looking to the humble cottage for inspiration - a trend far more suited to Bermuda’s historic homes and relaxed way of life. The look is simple and homely with an emphasis on shabby chic. Mismatched fabrics and a few vintage pieces create a lived-in feel.
